Can Anyone Tell Me What Is The Process To Get A Driverse Licence/permit To Drive In Usa For A Person On Visitors Visa Who Has Valid Drivers License From India And Also Has International Drivers License.

DL is not given in many states for people who have I-94 validity for less than 1 year.

You can drive temporarily using an international DL.

Many insurance companies charge extra but insurance can still be purchased without US DL. It will cost a bit more. If it is for a short visit the extra cost will not be a problem to eat in the extra cost.

What state is the person residing in?

*Many states let you drive on your Indian driving license as long as you have a visitor status.
*International driving license is useless and not recognized in US.
*Many states like maryland will let you have a regular license on a visitor visa
provided you pass all their tests.

Real ID law has made it much more difficult for non-citizens on other than those on work visas and their dependents or in PR status to obtain drivers licenses. They must be able to demonstrate residency which a visitor cannot do.

Pretty much in every state, you can not get a driver's license without a SSN, and you can not get an SSN without proof that you actually need one or that USCIS authorized you to work.

Even for someone with the proper documents (EAD, GC, etc) is difficult to obtain one, though not impossible. The DMV usually sends your documents for further verification and it takes about 4 weeks...

So, why is it that a DL is needed so bad? plenty of tourists come and rent cars everyday. Using their own DL or an international one.
