  • Mom got Visa!!!

    Hey all,

After an initial rejection in apr 2008 ,we applied this month(within a month!!),and got visa sucessfully!
Things we thought ,hopeless to get visa:

1.she is a widow, with no property in her name
2.She doesnt have job and enough financial ties, except pension.
3.she went for second interview,in less than a month.

    pros:
    1.she had 2 sons,grandchildren back in india.
2.she was confident enough to face a "long" interview, after a rejection last month.

But one thing that we believe that was effective, was a COVER LETTER,from my mother-in-law(translated in english)stating all the ties, and LETTER to CONSULATE from us,stating all the ties and assuring she would return back, and family photos attached to it.

Some swear these letter dont make a difference, but it worked for many and worked for me.Just be sure the person is confident enough to convince consulate, when asked questions,we had lot of mock interviews with her,and explained the fact, that how important it is to convince consulate in those few minutes.

SO for all out there, wondering if they can get visa, inspite of all the complextiy of their case, just send a well stated letter, and imparting lot of confidence to the person attending-sure success is on the way!!!!

    Thanks for all the guidance
    Sudha.

Would it be possible to paste the text in the letter. It would really be helpful.

    Thanks a lot.

Can you tell if the letter that you talk about was looked at by the VO?

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

          Aunt got visa

My aunt is a widow and her son and daughter live with her in India. I sponsored her and she was interviewed at the US Consulate Mumbai on May 16. She got her visa.
All they asked her was :
          1) Why are you going to USA?
          2) Do you know someone in USA?
          3) What does he/she do?
          4) Anyone else besides this person in USA?

And that's it. She was told that her visa is approved and will arrive by courier in 2-3 days. What my aunt told me was that she spoke directly with no nervousness. In her case it helped that her children were in India and she mentioned that she was going to USA just for tourism and to meet her nephew. There was no question on her children and her family.

Yes.VO took time to read the letter, from which questions were asked,
All VO needs is an explanation from our side to provide a visa, and i think, cover letter convinced him to an extent ,and confident answers from my mom, explained the rest
            Thanks
            Sudha.

              Hi
I got the basic format of the letter from this forum from a person who succeeded, and modified on my own, here is the link:

But i tried to group into,Social,Family,Financial ties, and explained in detail

Try ur luck,if consulate takes time to read, that really helps
              Thanks
              Sudha.
