Help! Want to bring mother in law, husband's greencard pending

Please give some feedback on my situation:

I am an American citizen, my husband and i recently got married, and went through the AOS interview (he originally came on J1 8 years ago and been in the country illegally until we got married). At the AOS interview (may 13th) they told us that the case looks good and he should get the greencard in 2-8 weeks.

My question is, can I invite my mother in law to visit us from Russia on a tourist visa, without her getting rejected because my husband hasnt physically received the greencard? Or maybe because he originally came on a J1 and broke the law by staying?

I'm pretty sure she can self sponsor, and she has strong ties in Russia.

His illegal presence can not be used against him, but it can certainly be used against his family. His failure to abide by the immigration law makes it harder to believe he will not "keep" his mother in the USA illegally also, but nothing prevents her from applying.

Our recent experience with a Russian visitor trying for a B1 visa with prior very good record of returning on time, was slow and very difficult.

While you should try, do not be too disappointed if it is denied.

Despite everything my mother in law was approved for visa in the Moscow embassy today! Thanks to immihelp.com for the great content! I organized the documents exactly as you said and it paid off.

Her situation:
Divorced
Decent pension
Performs as an opera singer and has shows planned later in the year in her home city
Owns nice apartment in the center of the city
Has daughter in Russia
Has 2 elderly sisters in Russia

Us
I am US citizen and husband has Greencard (previously J1)
Both middle class income on the lower side and sponsored her visa
