  • URGENT HELP required about PARENT NAME - VISITOR VISA

    Hello ,
I want to sponsor my parenst on visiting visa. My mothers name is different in my fathers passport and also in mine .
In her passport it is like LastName Lakshmi MiddleName
In my fathers it is like Laxmi MiddleName
and in my passport it is like LastName Lakshmi

Lakshmi is her first name but mispelled & last name missing in my fathers passport and in my passport her middle name is missing.
Some one told me that I can mention her other names in DS156 form . But I am confused if non usage of middle name and last name in some places be mentioned in DS156?
Anyone's help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

No issues. Ask her to create a self affidavit that all these names/combinations belong to her. And present it, ONLY if asked. Otherwise, it is not an issue.

    BTW, why is this urgent?

For the other names used, My take on it is mention it if the name was changed from X to Y at some point in time say from birth and later.

If the passport says John Adam Smith, witing Adam John Smith, Smith Adam John and other permutations of the same under other names used is not needed. But you could choose to write it.

It is the cultural difference that only first names are prominent in India and people hardly know the last names and so the passport offices make such crappy errors.

Good luck! As I see it, it is a non issue. Visitor visa is more dependent on ties to home country and things associated with that. Name matching on your passport etc are all non issues to be frank.

            Did it work out?

Hey.. Did the VISA work finally..? Were there any issues during the interview or during the immigration?

            Thanks,

I would like to clarify a little bit.

Such practice of not using last name etc. is not prominent in entire India, only in South India.

Agree with admin, I am always confused why there are so many cases of jumbled names or names with missing parts.

I think it is mainly due to the passport application form that does not have a clear separation in name. It just had one line to write FULL NAME when I applied for my passport.

It is up to the PP officer to pick what the first name is and what the surname is and obviously they get it wrong or choose to write the FULL name in one of the section depending on their mood (Given Name or Surname) and leave the other blank.

I wish they would clearly indicate it like how they do it in the PP renewal forms for the Indian consulate in US.

I have not looked at the latest passport forms from India and this observation was based on more than a decade ago

It seems some replies for another thread have got posted here, but the original question is still yet to be answered. When you get a chance, please let us know if you feel missing last names can cause issues with VISA application/ interview etc.

                    Thanks,
