Visitor visa-question on fathers employement...

My father retired 8 years ago and mother is housewife, however my father works currently as a consultant and has the IT returns for the last 2 years.

would it make sense to just show that he is retired or a current job will increase the chances of getting a visa, since he can say that he needs to go back to work again after this trip to USA...

If he is working, he is not really retired. He needs to show whatever he is currently doing.
