  • Visitor Visa for my brother who is physically handicapped

    Dear friends,
    Please suggest....
In March my parents and brother (unmarried 26 years old and physically handicapped) went for visitor visa. My parents got their visa approved and brother's visa got rejected(214B)
This month I have booked his appointment again.
What all documents are required from his side? Initially I had provided all the documents but we never submitted his medical certificate(because nothing was mentioned on the application form). This time we are going to present his medical certificate.
Last time we had showed his business as part time photography. This time we have got a shop licence for his and now he is running shop with help of my father.
How much money we have to show in bank on his name?
Kindly suggest, if anyone has certain situation before?
Any help in this matter will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

List of core documents needed can be found in the visitor visa section of the home page of this website. It is at your discretion what additional documents you want to take alongwith to prove his strong ties to his home country and that he'll eventually return. Its the applicant's responsibility to prove non-immigrant intent.

What do you mean you "showed" his business as whatever. That means you provided false information on the application? And for the next attempt, the old business disappeared and a completely new one took its place?? Beware of these games, misrepresentation of facts can get him banned from even applying for a visa in the future.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.
I am not providing any false information. Last time, he was doing part time photography and we mentioned that in the application. This time, we had started a store on his name. He has got the licence for the shop and my father is helping him out.
Sorry for the confusion. May be my way of explaining was not correct.
As I mentioned, he is handicapped, my father is going to go along with him for his visa interview.

Only applicants may enter US consulates. I am not sure if it'll be possible for your father to accompany your brother inside the consulate for the interview unless he himself too has an appointment for the same.

I mean to say, there might be a provision for your father to accompany him, but I am not aware of the same.

            Thanks for all your help.
I did verify with US consulate in Mumbai and they email me me saying that my father can accompany him.

I am going to have my father print that email and take with him in case of some problem.

I have filled up all the required forms for my brother and I noticed there is no section on the form for the person with some medical problem. I don't know when will they have time to see the medical certificate. There is no way the VO will come to know until he sees or talks to him. We are planning to have medical certficate submitted along with DS156/DS157 forms.

            Any suggestion on this please?

            Thanks

The US does not discriminate on the basis of disability. There is likely some concern about him becoming a public charge because of his health which is a basis for exclusion. If he will be able to obtain health insurance, it may be helpful to mention you plan to obtain it (do not purchase it yet though). There may also be the concern that he might overstay to be in your care if your parents are elderly and he needs a lot of physical help. If he needs a lot of help, there may also be some concern about his ability to travel internationally. These are just some thought for him to be prepared to answer for the VO.
