  • Passport damaged - Please help

    Hi,

My mother-in-law's visitor visa was issued on 2nd july 2008 for 10 years multiple entry at Chennai consulate. On 26th july her passport and visa was damaged as the passport is washed out in a car accident. When we enquired chennai consulate they told that she has to attend a fresh interview again once she secure her new passport.

She has secured her new passport and visa interview is scheduled on 25th Aug.

Will there be any problem in issuing visa for her again on a new passport?
How to handle this situation during interivew? Please help.

    Thanks,
    VSV

    Why?

Did you commit any fraud or was there any wrong doing?

You mentioned the passport was just washed out and damaged, so you get a new passport and get a new visa stamped.

    It's as simple as that!

Why should there be any problems unless you've done something wrong and are worried that AMCON VO may catch it.

Just relax and ask your family to relax and answer truthfully.

    Good luck.

      Thanks for your Immideate reply.

We did NOT commit any fraud and we did NOT do anything wrong.

It happened in an accident and as result she cancelled her USA trip at last minute.

My question was ..does she need to prove before VO that it happened accidently? For that we have photographs of accident, Insurance claim douments etc..
And what about the visa that was issued already? Will they cancel that one and grant new one?
What are the questions she can expect from VO?

This is all that we are trying to prepare her for this unexpected situation ...and not worrying about something wrong we have done(because did not commit any mistake).

      Thanks a lot.

      Regards,
      VSV

No need to explain or provide proof. She has to qualify again and prove non-immigrant intent one more time. But, in general, it is easy if she mentions she had a visa on a passport that was damaged and shows a copy of it if available.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

I would suggest to carry Official Police Report that mentions that passport was damaged during an accident, that can be the only authorized document they can trust !!!

Though, having previously a valid Visa will definitely help, they know you are appearing again only because you lost it !!!

Do not forget to carry copies of previous passport , visa and I-94.

          Good Luck !!!

            I thought ...

... the passport was "Washed up" or "damaged" but the document is still in the hands of the owner.

I recently got turned away at the airport because my passport was damaged. I just had it renewed and now all is well.
