  • Visitor's visa for short courses

    Hi,
I am a dental surgeon with a 14-year old flourishing private practice. I have registered[fee paid about $8000] for short courses in dentistry in a span of 3 weeks. I am 46 years and single. My aged parents were living with me and they both expired recently. I have the following documents:

    1. Chartered valuer's certificate of land and building. [Do I need to carry original documents which are in local language?]
    2. Charterd Accountants certificate of movable and immovable assets.
    3. Last 3 years Income Tax returns.
    4. 6 month's bank statements to show balances of about $11,000
    5. Credit card statement with credit limit of about $5000
    6. Invitations from the course diectors and recept for fee paid
    7. Latest muncipal licence for clinic
    8. Business card
    9. Family photo
    10. I-134 from my b-i-l.
I would like to add that I was refused F1 visa twice in 1993 - "Potential Immigrant." This is my first visit to USA. I have travelled to European countries and South Africa a few times for short periods of two to three weeks to attend conferences and make presentations. My sister and b-i-l are US citizens. Rest of my family is in India. Please let know the possible questions, deficiencies in my documentation or any other matter.

Thank you in advance for your great help.

    1. Take originals, and translation by a recognized translator.
2-9: looks good, will help you.
    10. I-134, in my opinion will hurt your case. You are well established and can easily support your travel and stay. If this is the case, then I would recommend no sponsorship needed. Your sister being USC further weakens your application if you are sponsored by them. Declare truly about your sister in the DS-156 form. All the best.

PS: I am surprised to see that you paid the fees $8K a significant amount before getting the visa. Hope it is refundable in case you dont get the visa.

10 year multiple entry visa granted!

I appeared for interview on Aug. 25 at Chennai. My appointment time was 2.15 pm. I was at VFS at 1 pm. Their shuttle took me in about 10 minutes and was at the consulate much ahead of interview time. Finished all formalities, finger prints etc. and was in front of the VO at 2.10 pm! The interview went on like this:
      VO: Hello
      Me: Good afternoon
He goes thru my papers and then,
      VO: Why are you going?
Me: To attend courses at ---------- institute.
VO flips thru my passport and then,
VO: Why did you go to Taiwan?
      Me: On family business
VO: Can I see your invitation?
I gave him 3 invitations, course reg.+fee ack. He reads the invitations and asked me 2 questions pertaining to the courses that I am attending.
VO: You will get your passport in a weeks time.
Me: Will it be possible for me to collect today evening?
VO: Today it is not possible. You can collect tomorrow evening at VFS.
      Me: Thank you.

It was just 2.15 pm! By 2.30pm I am back at the VFS. Had their free CoffeeDay coffee and was out of VFS at 2.45 pm.

I had applied for 1-month stay and when I got the passport, I got 10-year multiple entry visa. I had prepared my papers as per immihelp advice and did not take my b-i-l's I-134 papers. No papers other than invitations were checked. No questions reg. my sister in USA or clinic running in my absence. I prepared all papers as per immihelp tips and followed the other tips like Be confident, Look into the VO's eyes and speak, dress like what you are, tell truth only etc...

This forum gave me a lot of confidence. Thanks a lot.
