  • Grandson with cancer

My Son who is 3 and half years old has been diaognized recently with Leukemia. My mom wants to visit us from India and will be attending the visa interview. She is planning to state that the purpose of the visit is to give emotional support to us and also show the letter from hospital along with other documents. She has been to US in 2005 but was given a 1 year visa.

She is hoping for a 10 year visa.Couple of questions....

    1) Can she say she will be travelling back and forth between US and India since we cannot visit India for the next 3 years?

    2) Can I fill the visa application form (DS-156) in US on her behalf, sign at the place that I filled it for her and mail it to her so she can sign at the applicant's signature area ...or should the form be filled by someone in India on her behalf?

    3) Carry my son's passport copy/photo for the interview?

    4) The affidavit of support (I-134) on the DHS website is expired in 2007. Can it still be used?

    5) Are my paystubs required or is letter of employment enough?

Any other suggestions or information is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Sudhakar

    1. Not a good idea. She can do that after getting the visa though provided she spends more time in India than in US.

    2. You can fill it. Whether you want to sign or not, either case is fine. Generally it is if a professional fills the form. You may or may not sign and can choose she filled it. Personal choice.

    3. Can. No harm.

    4. Check the uscis website. Fill the form. Affidavit of support is hardly a requirement for visitor visa and never looked at.

    5. Send both

Look at the list from immihelp mainpage.

Good luck! My prayers for your son to get well soon.

Since your son diagnosed recently remember that if she requires a visa in a regional language, this could be considered a medical emergency, and she should ask for an emergency appointment so she can travel immediately.

If she can attend in English, the interview may not have enough of a delay to go through the trouble.

Best wishes for your son's recovery.

            Affidavit of support

The form I-134 on DHS website has an expiry date of 2/28/07. Can we still use this form?

                Property papers

Thanks to the people who have helped answer my concerns.

Can the property papers be photocopies notarized or do they have to be shown in original for the interview?

VOs don't have time to look at property papers. A CA statement or an evaluation report from a civil engineer on a letter head is what people generally take with them. Copies of property docs would help if VO is suspicious that the property is fictitious.

                    Mother's name in passport

                    1) In the DS-156 visa application form, there is a section where they ask for first name and middle name and ask for exactly as it appears in the passport. My mother's middle name was printed first and then the first name in the passport "given names" section. I indicated as stated in the passport. Was i supposed to indicate the first name first and then the middle name? In that case, it will not look like how it appears in the passport...middle and then first. Any thoughts how this works..is the sequence important?

                    2) Her visa appointment has been fixed at noon. Any idea if there is quota for visas for a day?

                    Thanks
