how long can my parents stay

My parents are coming to USA on Tourist Visa, i have heard from some people that lately, the immigration officers have not been granting stay of more than 4 months on the I-94. is that true.

But regardless of whether they are given 6 months or not. They should not stay longer than 3-4 months... the would risk to be flagged as potential immigrants in the future and have a tougher time at the POE. This is specially true if this is their first visit.
