  • Parents got visitors visa

My parents got 10 years multiple entry visitor visas. Thanks to Immihelp for all the information that helped in preparing for the interview.
The interview was in English in Chennai consulate on 23rd September at 11:30 a.m. They went to the consulate at 10:30 a.m. They had to wait outside in the line for about half an hour. Once inside, the verification, fingerprinting, interview and all other procedures were over by 12:45 p.m. In the interview few questions were asked but none of the supporting documents were seen.

    The questions asked were:
    To my dad:
    1. Why do you want to go to U.S.?
To visit our daughter and son-in-law and to see the places around in U.S.

    2. How many children do you have?
Two. One son and one daughter.

    3. What does your son do?
Works as YYYY in YYYY company in YYYY country. (My brother works in Europe)

    4. What does your daughter do?
    Homemaker

    5. Where does your son-in-law work?
    YYYY (company name)

    6. What do you do?
    Retired

    7. Do you have any property in India?
Yes (But the VO did not see any property documents)

    To my mom:
    1. What do you do?
    Homemaker

Our scenario: We are permanent residents.

There was an error while typing my father’s date of birth in my mother’s DS-156 form. I had asked them to bring this to the notice of the person verifying forms in the consulate. But probably they forgot. But there was no problem arising out of that.

Hope this information is useful for future applicants and once again thanks to Immihelp.

    Hi Nashaktra,

My parents visa got rejected the first time in April 2008.I was pregnant (but they told them I was not pregnant )then and I am planning to reapply again in November.

1)Do you think its a good idea for them to tell that I have a kid?
2)I am a homemaker,I have a EAD.The officer saw all my documents and might have suspected that I have a EAD and not working.I am planning to start working in Jan,do you think its a good idea to send my parents then?

    Please answer.I am so confused.
    Thanks.
    Soumya.

If you talk truth, you dont need all these stories and such questions.

        Hi Soumya,

I do not think that your work had got anything to do with the rejection of your parents’ visa. I do not know if saying that you were not pregnant led to the rejection. I guess they tell you the reason for rejection. Don’t they? I was on EAD too and got GC just a month ago. I am not working either. We had decided that if asked for then my parents would tell the truth about my pregnancy. Also many of our friends suggested saying that my brother was in India while he was actually working in Europe. But we did not take the suggestion. So it’s always good to tell the truth.

Your parents’ ties to the home country probably led to the rejection. Or if you had sponsored then sometimes it gets rejected citing that you cannot support them if its just a year or so since you started working here. You know the reasons best.

If you have a kid then no point in telling a lie as it would have to be mentioned in I-134. If you are pregnant then its good to say so IF ASKED FOR, not otherwise. Hmmm…whether to apply for again in November or January? Well, that depends on why the visa got rejected the first time and have any of those situations changed since then.

I know how stressful it is to sit here and prepare your parents for the interview. Preparing the documents correctly is all we can do and a little bit of preparation for parents to face the usual questions asked in interview. I do not believe that twisting and turning the facts would help. And it will be very stressful for your parents also to prepare for the so-called “EXPECTED” answers. So do not worry about the “RIGHT” answers, just state the facts.

Take it easy and hope your parents will get the visa this time. Good Luck!
