  • I94 Dates

    Hi everyone,

At the port of entry, my father-in-law was interviewed and they didn’t stamp or write the return date (duration of stay). It is left blank, but it mentioned B2 what should we do now?

We can assume that he can stay for 6 months from the date of arrival. Please suggest if any one had the same experience before?

    Thanks

You can not assume any thing. You have to take your father in law to POE airport and explain the situation to get the date stamping done immediately in his I94. Please take the air ticket to prove the landing date.

The one they retained is arrival record. The one, that is the bottom portion, given to your father-in-law is I94 departure record. Both will have the same number. You only have to take the one which is with your father-in-law and show to the authorities for the date to be stamped.
        Good Luck.

There is nothing to be scared. Just go to the airport. They will look what the system has for I-94 expiry date and write it on your departure record. Simple!

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I took my father-in-law and explained the situation to the officer custom and border protection officer. They said, it shows electornically admitted and since they (Immigration officer) mentioned B2 in writing, he can stay upto 6 months and they wrote the same on the I94.

We also mentioned that at the port of entry, the officer told orally that he is going to give only 90 days, but my father-in-law was not sure whether what sense they said. We asked him to check the record electronically, he said he didn’t see anything and he is good to stay till the date he mentioned.

I was wondering the whether the officer at the port of entry wrote in the other portion of the I94 which he retained and not update electronically.

            Please suggest…..

            Thanks

Pretty confusing situation. The date is entered on both arrival and departure portion of the I-94 which is fed electronically during data entry from the arrival record.

Give it a month and go back to the airport and ask them to check the expiration date on I-94 quoting what the POE officer said and the date was missing which they later wrote on the I-94. Tell them you were just ensuring there is no overstay.

Once they confirm the date from their system, you should be all set.

Not necessarily. It just depends on the CBP officer and how diligent they are.

No return date on I 94

My parents came yesterday with a I-94 that did not contain the return date. They have the stamp and all the other details in place. What should they do to know the valid date of return? They had their POE at New York and traveled to Boston. And are now with us in Norwood. Will they have to go to New York again for entering the date? Can they go after some days or is it urgent?

You can go to any nearby international airport and visit the CBP deferred inspection post.
