  • can I covert my B1/B2 visa in to F1 student visa?

    HI ,all

Need help on this. I am currently in USA on B1 visa. This is my second visit on this visa. My I-94 expires on 10 feb,2009. I would like to do study for graduate degree in university. The university I have selected start the course in summer ( May 2009. ). Can I extend my visitor visa and than convert my visitor visa to student visa? What are my options on this?

Please advise as soon as possible.

    Regards.

    No, and No.

Your option is go back home with an I-20 from the school you plan to enroll and apply for an F1 visa.

Thanks for the reply. If I get admission in the school in january 2009 ( winter term ) before expiry of my i-94 can I convert my B1 visa in to F1 student visa?

IF yes than how and what is the procedure for it?

Your advice will be highly appreciated on this.

Converting from B2 to F1 in the US now expects that you had declared on your B2 entry that you had that intent.

Hi. Me too having the same query. I am visiting US in August 09. Planning to apply to certain universities while I am there for Masters. After getting an admit can I apply for the transfer of B1/B2 visa to a student visa from there itself?

Please respond if you know about it. Any official online site where I can ask this question?

Yes, you can. At the port of entry declare that you intend to study in the US and change status to F1 later. Tell the officer to make note of this.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Then he may or may not allow you to enter the USA.

This is standard procedure. You have to tell them that you are researching universities and deciding which one to attend. Both B and F are non immigrant intent visas.

But the right way to do things is to apply for an F1 visa at home.
