Visa Reapplication before expiration

Hello,

My parents currently have a 10 year visitor visa expiring in July 2009. They are planning to come to the U.S. sometime in June 2009 and would like to stay for six months.

My question is how soon before the expiration of their current visa can they apply for a new visitor visa. Is it even possible or do they have to wait till the current visa has expired before applying for the new one?

If their visa expires in July 2009, and if they plan to visit in Jun 2009, they don't need new visa. They can come even on the last of visa expiration date, and still can stay for 6 months, if I-94 is stamped accordingly.

Thank you for the clarification! I didn't know that they could enter until the last day before expiration of the visa.

I was concerned that the Immi officer at the port of entry would stamp a date of just one month from the day of entry (if they were to come in June 2009 and the visa was expiring in July 2009)
