  • B2 visa for my visiting parents from Canada

    Hello,
I'm on a work permit in Canada for the last 2 years. My parents have come to stay with me for a few months. I want to apply B2 visa for them from the US consulate in Toronto (I have booked the dates for next week). My cousin is sponsoring them. What are the chances of them getting the B2 visa? They have valid return tickets to India dated Feb 2009. Will that be sufficient apart from financial proof? They are currently on single entry canadian visitor visa. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It is harder to get visitor visas when applying out of your home country unless it is an emergency. The US consulate may ask them why they did not apply before leaving India. This is because the embassy staff at home country is more familiar with situations in that country and can better assess ties to that country.

That said, I do not wish to discourage you. Now that you have taken a date,
try to make a best presentation. Do your parents have any relatives of their own age living in US? How is the cousin related to your parents?

B2 visa for my visiting parents from Canada

      Hi Peace,
Thanks for your reply. My parents do not have anyone of their age in the US. My cousin is my father's elder brother's son. Should we say that we have an emergency to get the visa. What happens if we are refused a visa. Will that affect future visa application?

I think a denial is possible in India as well and if they are denied here they can always say when applying in India that the embassy asked them to apply in India.

They can apply and if asked, they can explain that they did not plan to visit US when they left India but now they think they have come so far , they will visit their nephew for 2 weeks.
(Asking a short stay can turn the decision in their favour).

Must take a return ticket to India with them at the interview. Also, take any docs showing occupational ties to India.

Visitor Visa for my parents visiting Canada

          Hi Peace and other members,
My parents got a B2 visa from Canada though they were visiting Canada for a few days. We were able to convince the visa officer to issue visas. Thanks for all your help
