visitor visa start date

hi,
i am applying for tourist visa. Assuming they give 6 month visa, does
the visa start date begin

1)the date they attend the interview

or

2)the day they plan to leave for U.S.A. (from INDIA)


If it #2, then visa validity is for 1 year and so they can leave for usa anytime
within a year for 6 months, correct.

Visa stamp duration and the duration that you can stay in the US are two different things.
