Visa renewal

I have a visitor visa approve for six months valid May 21 2004- Nov 21 2004. Unfortunately I am was not able to travel at that time... I am planning on travelling now (Oct 2004)

a) If I enter US before the expiry of my visa, for what length shall i get 1-94 ----uptill visa expiry date or longer

b) If I apply for renewal of visa. Will that be favourable? If yes, shall I wait for the visa to expire or do it now while its still valid.

C)What are the caveate that I need to know if I renew.

My uncle entered US one month before his visitor visa was due to expire. He got a 6-month stamp on his I-94. My understanding is that the expiry date on I-94 is solely at the discretion of the immigration officer at the port of entry.
