Visitors Visa first time entry in USA LAX?

My mom just got her tourist visa last Sept 2008 and she did not use it yet not once.she is coming to USA this March 2009 for the first time.My question is how long would be the stay that will be granted to her by the CBP? Is it gonna be 6 months? thanks.

depends on what she tells the POE officer. how long she asks for and how she convinces him/her that she will return... usually you should ask for 3-4 months and you will get the default which is 6 months.

She can book a 4 month return ticket (Just block a tentative return date)present the e tkt at poe and with this in hand if she gets a 6 months stay permit (gen they do) and if you change your mind to stay back for the rest of the allowed period its a small fees you are paying for the date change to airlines- a small fee,less risky and stay legal.

I can't believe this thread has so many replies . I will add one more. First time visitors usually get 6 months provided they give the right reasons at POE.

I will add one more to the already crowded post. Subsequent visits will also attract 6 months stay provided you do not violate the law of the land.

She already booked a 6 months ticket and shes arriving this march 10,2009.
