  • Parents and Sister got visa at Mumbai in first attempt!

My parents and sister had a 11 AM appt today at the Mumbai consulate. My father is 61 yrs old, mother 53 and sister 23.

    The questions they asked were:

    (to father)
    1. What do you do? (retired/pensioner)
    2. Where did you work before you retired? (govt service)
    3. Why do you want to visit the US? (tourism)

    (to sister)
    1. How many years of education do you have left? (1 year)
    2. Which college do you study? Which course? (name of college/course)

    (to mother)
    1. What do you do? (housewife)
    2. What does your son do? (s/w engineer)
    3. Where does your son stay/work?
    4. Who is sponsoring your trip? (my son)
    5. For how long do you want to visit? (2 months)

My sister had taken a letter from her college stating that she needs to be back to complete her education and her degree.

The interviewer was an american lady. She listened patiently, smiled and said "I will give you visa, enjoy your trip"

My parents called me early morning to give us this news. we are so excited.

I wish to once again thank immihelp for such a wonderful site. I will post their experience in detail once I talk to them.

Vistor visa for Parents and Sister

Congratulations!! I am happy that you will be able to spend some time with your family!! How long did you mention in your letter that you want your parents/ sister to visit you? - 6 months or less that that. Also, did your parents & sister take personal affidavits? My Parents and sister's interview is on the 28th of this month at chennai, I am trying to collect some valuable info. Thanks..

Re: Vistor visa for Parents and Sister

      Hi,

In the affidavit of support I said they would be here for a duration of 2 months. Finally, the actual duration of stay is decided at POE.

My father, mother and sister took personal affidavits with them along with all documents mentioned on this site. Also, if your sister is studying, it may be helpful to take a letter from her college, stating that she is going to visit USA during her vacations and has to be back to complete her studies and graduate.

      All the best,

          DD for Visa fees

          Hi,

My parents have an appointment this month. Could anyone let me know if they need to take 4 seperate DD's, 2 each of Rs.4,600 & Rs.2,300 or if they could just take two DD's (of Rs.9,200 & Rs.4,600).

          Thanks

              Got the passports

Today they got their passports in mail. My parents and my sister got a 10 year multiple entry visa !!! I had expected my sister to get a 6 month or 1 year but we all were surprised (and excited) to see the 10 year stamp in her passport too.

                Re: Got the passports

Does the personal affidavit have to be notarized on stamp paper or this can be a regualr print out with notary?
Can the property values have be approximate?
My mother does know English but my sister does, so how do I make their personal affidavits in English or Marathi(mother tongue)?
Do I need to attach the photocopies or originals of the properties papers to their affidavits?

                thanks in advance
                Babu
