Turn in green card for immigrant visa

Hi,

My wife holds a green card and it's been over 1 yr since she's been out. We have a re-entry permit but it's lost. We were thining that maybe we can just get a visitors visa as we dont really want to live in the US anyways.

Can we just forfeit the green card in exchange for a visitor's visa? Has anyone ever done this...

You can not "trade it" or "exchange it" for something else.

You can return it, and then apply for a visitor visa, but there is no guarantee that you will get one.
