traveling to hawaii when pending for visa re-new

Hello,
I have visa type b1/b2 that expired.
I applied for extension I received a letter that my application is being processed.

I understood that by law you can stay legally in the US for 240 days while pending for the answer.

I'm going to Hawaii really soon and I heard that they have separate immigration department,
Will that cause an issue?
If so, what is the worst thing that can happen?

Hawaii is part of the US, just like any other state. There is no difference if you travel anywhere in the US, across the street, across the town, across the state or to Hawaii.
