  • student inviting mother for graduation

    Hello all,

I am inviting my mother for my graduation. I have sent the reqd docs for her visa. I have 2 questions.
    1. What is the approx amount she has to show as liquid cash in her bank acc if she is self sponsoring.
    2. If I also show some money (as a co-sponsor), is it just that she has to change the sponsor section in DS156 to "Self & Son" and carry just a bank statement letter of my acc in the US or any other doc also?

    Thank you,
    Pra

I think for a short trip (1 month) showing 3000 to 4000 dollars should be enuf. You can send your bank statements as well and mention financial support in your invitation letter.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

If your mother is rich enough with property and cash balance, then, let her sponsor for her visa. You only need to send an invitation letter asking her to attend the graduation ceremony. A letter from the school on your graduation will definitely help.
I did the same in 2005 and got through the interview.
      Good wishes.
