  • Visitor visa process -- unfair on parents?

I totally symphathise with Shri. mumbairesident , really it is shameful that our elderly parents have to go through this ordeal just to be able to visit their children. I think it is inhuman and I am sure many of you will agree. This makes me think that what is the use of living in a country where my parents cannot even visit me ? If they want to then they will have to go through this horrible process with the fear of rejection always at the back of their minds.

My in-laws visa was recently rejected and we are feeling so guilty about having to make them go through this insulting process. They were not dying to come here , we only wanted them to visit and the visa officer says that you will not come back without looking at the documents properly even and speaks rudely to them and asks them insulting questions. These guys are taking advantage of the power that has been given to them, using it to their will to grant visas as per their whims and fancies. And we say US policies are fair & free ? I think there should be some sort of protest against such inhuman treatment .

While I sympathise with you, there is nothing much you can do about it. They have the power to decide who should get visa.

      question

I had a question for you Immihelp.

The first question which was asked of them at the interview was " Why has your daughter-in-law sponsored you and sent the documents , why not your son ? Do you have bad relations with him" ?

This really unnerved them and I guess they got nervous, though they said that for us it is the same but did this work against us ? My husband's Green Card processing is on (with me & my daughter as his dependents) and since I am working ( stable permanent job with a reputed company) I sponsored them (affidavit of support, employment letter, invitation letter etc.). I had done the same for my parents who visited us last year. If a son-in-law can sponsor his in-laws, why cannot a well-earning daughter-in-law do the same for her in-laws?

Will it help to re-apply if my husband sponsors this time ?
Any feedback would be appreciated .
