remove ex husband's name from passport before application?

My wife is planning to apply for a B2 visa shortly. Her passport still has her ex husband's name on it. What this means is that the name of the husband(me) on the application forms will not match with the passport.

Is it necessary to get the ex husband's name removed from the passport before we apply for the visa? or is it fine that we submit the current marriage certificate along with it?

It is not necessary to get ex-husband's name removed first.

Ask her to carry her current marriage certificate and the document proving that the previous person is no longer her husband such as divorce certificate, death certificate etc.
