  • Passport Delivery Time Question HELP

Interview took place on may 18th morning at New Delhi.
VO retained the passport and said visa is issued.
VFS still has not received the passport, how long does it take for the VFS to receive the passport, is there any additional verification done once the consulate retains the passport.
Going through the US consulate web site it says once the passport is retained by the embassy it means visa is issued else passport is returned if visa is denied. Also if someone's visa is denied or deemed temp ineligible then they are gien a pink/yellow or blue slip - right ??

So how long should i wait for the passport to be sent to VFS ????

Depends on how busy the consulate is. 2- 3 days is usual most of the times.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

      Thanks for the response.
By the way this is not H1 visa BUT a tourist visa B2.
The embassy has the passport and have not yet delivered it to VFS, 2 business days have passed.
Will they send it to VFS on the 3rd business day ??

You have to be patient and wait it out. Consulates are busy sometimes.

Dad still did not get passport back - it has been 5 business days. Since it was taking more than normal I suspected it might have to do with admin processing and so checked the embassy link for admin processing and see that his passport # is listed there, he was NOT given any pink slip or told anything about this.
He is 75+ years old and has been to the US 4 times before. i am really frustrated and confused, what should i do ? please advise, should we write or call them ? I hear they are not very responsive in terms of attending to the phone call etc. Kindly help

My father (age 75+) called the embassy and after trying incessantly for 1 hour and 40 minutes he was able to talk to some person. Upon enquiry as to why is it taking long for his passport, he was told that there is some mandatory administrative processing the embassy needs to do BUT they didn't provide any time frame even after asking them several times, they kept saying there is nothing to worry.
Please note that he was not given a pink slip or as a matter of fact any color slip and nor told anything at the time of interview.
Should he keep calling the embassy every few days ?
He has purchased his tickets and his flight is in 2 weeks from now? He has also sent an email yesterday to the embassy and awaiting a response.
Confused and disappointed, what should be the next steps ?
