Plz help renwal of passport

Hi,
I have 10 years of b1/b2 visa.i am in USA for past 7 months.I applied for change of status from b1/b2 to f1 in dec.Now my passport expries june 10th 2009.I still havent received any reply for change my status.My six month stay has already been expried.Should i apply for renewal of passport.I am worried that it may take 45 days.what if the change of status reply came negative.I wont have passport to go back.how long can I stay after I receive my negative result.and what papers should I send to Indian embassy to get my passport renewed.

You should apply for your passport renewal right away.

If you get change of status is denied, you have no grace period. You will have to leave immediately and you can't leave if you don't have valid passport and that will be a big problem for you.
