im currently in America on a tourist visa that expires on the 12th October. i am going to the Dominican Republic in July for a friends wedding, will i have problems re-entering the country??

Not unless you plan on re-entering after Oct 12th.

Now, depending on how long you have been in the USA, your stay may not be extended or you may face problems if you have been "visiting" for more than 4-5 months.
