Administrative varification

Hello senior members,

My parents faced interview for visitor visa at US embassy, N. Delhi on 29th april.
While my mother got the visa immediately but my father has been told by embassy that his require administrative varification and would get Visa after 3-4 weeks.
My question is What is administrative varification? and how much time it usually take to process the visa?

My father called up Embassy also but they siad it is under process.

I am curious to know what are the chances of getting visa.

The chances of getting the visa are high, it is just that your father's application has to undergo administrative processing and that most likely is security clearance from Washington D.C There is no time frame given, but from what I am observing based on statistical data and based on the administrative processing pdf file at the New Delhi embassy's web site, average is somewhere around 3 months or so, however I guess people applying for student visas might be given priority over those applying for tourist visas or H1 visas.
if your father's interview was on April 29th, that means it was 2009119 cases and from what I see in the pdf file updated on 06/09, out of total of 21 cases for April 29th, 9 are pending. So chances are it might be happening soon.
