I need urgent help! My father applied for B2 vistor's visa in Guangzhou China in early Feb. 2003 but was told to wait because his case needs background check (although he has been to US twice before). I guess because he is a retired chemistry professor (maybe a sensitive field!) There has been no response after ten months has passed. The application was neither approved or refused. He was told his file was sitting somewhere in the US. Now I want to invite my father to visit US in early 2004. What should my father do in this situation? 1)Can he just ignore the previous application and apply for a new B2? 2)Or does he have to withdraw the previous application first? If he does, what will be the consequence? Will he have to go through the background check all over again? 3)Where and how can we check the status of the case? Is there a way to expedite the approval process?
