  • Regarding Affidavit of Support

    Hi,

I am currently in F-1 visa in Ohio. I applied for my parents’ visitor visa through Drop-Box option on June 23 at Chennai. Consulate refused their visas and asked them to come for personal appearance. They got their personal appearance dates at Chennai on anytime before August 19.

I have questions regarding Form I-134. My parents are planning to spend their money to come to US (like travel tickets from India to USA) and I will be just supporting their stay and local travel expenses in USA. In that case do I need to provide them with the Affidavit of Support (Form I-134) while they are going for their personal appearance at Chennai consulate?

Also last time in their Drop-Box application, I submitted the Form I -134 signed by an Indian Notary Lawyer who is eligible to do Oath of Commission. Is it necessary to be signed by a US Notary?

I am working as Graduate Research Assistant here in a University. I would like to know is it difficult to bring my parents here to USA when I am in a Student Visa? It is the reason why I am telling my parents to show in their application that they would be supporting their travel expenses. They will produce their Bank Statements to support this.

Please advise me. Thanks for your time and help.

    Regards,

    Sudhakar

      Thanks for your information !!

      Hi,

Thanks for your information and valuable discussions in the forum. My parents went for personal interview(with Tamil translation) today at Chennai. In the interview they asked them simple questions (like my University details, my sister and brother-in-law in India, who will support the trip?, etc). After interview, they collected their Passports, asked them to give the DD's for issuance fees at cashier counter, took finger prints, their bank statements, my passport copy, I-134, my bank letter and statements. Also Visa officer told them that they will be getting their passports in courier soon. I just want to know, does it mean that they got their visas ?.

Now I am planning to bring my wife here on F-2 visa as a dependent. We got married in this June. Do I need to give an I-134 for her too? Or if I just send the dependent I-20 (from my school) would be fine ?. What are the documents needed for her F-2 visa interview. She got her appointment with Chennai consulate on Aug25th. I plan to bring my parents to USA with her after she gets her visa. Does she needs to mention her in-laws(my parents) visas in her application or in the interviews ? The reason I am asking is that there is a column in DS-156 form which says " Anyone is traveling with you to USA ?". What she needs to answer for this question.

My wife is working in a bank in India and she is not planning to leave her job right now. Does she need to state about this in the interview ? What is a good way to answer these questions ?

I try to find information for F-2 visas from your website and I did not find much discussions/information about it. If you have a link can you please send it to me.

Once again Thanks a lot for your website info.

      Regards,

      Sudhakar

Re: Thanks for your information !!

        1. Yes, they got visa. Please post your application details at www.immihelp.com/tracker

        2. Yes, give I-134 for her too. She does not have to mention your parents' name in 'Anyone traveling..'
Please add your wife's app details at www.immihelp.com/tracker

        3. If asked about her job, tell truth.

          Question about I-134

          Hi,

I plan to send an I-134 for my wife also. In I-134 form, section 10 says "That I have submitted visa pettition(s) to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigiration Services(CIS) on behalf of the following person(s). If none, state none.". In my case what should I write here. My parents went for B-2 visa interview yesterday and got their visas.

Do I need mention it or do I need to state NONE here.

          Please reply soon.

          Thanks for your time.
