  • Visitor Visa rejected in Mumbai

My in-laws had interview at the mumbai consulate couple of months ago and they were rejected based on following question: (Asked to my father-in-law) and my mother-in-law doesn't work anymore.
    1) What's your annual income?
    Ans: Rs. YYYY

and That's it, the officer said "we can't issue visa to you guys" under section 214(b). They haven't even got to the point of checking in-laws documents.
Now this time around, my mother-in-law applied herself and father-in-law didn't because he didn't have vacation to come into usa. She went into the US consulate for the interview and they asked following question,

1)Why is your husband not applying for vistor visa this time?
Ans: He has no vacation and is working
(Cuz, first time around father-in-law had summer vacation for a month)
That's it. They rejected her visa again, under section 214(b), without asking any more questions. Now she is kind of confused on what to do next? I'm confused as well.

Should she apply again? or is there anything I can do from here in usa? Any suggestions appreciated.

I am sorry to hear that.

You can apply again. Sometimes, luck works too.

Nothing much you can do from here than provide all documents listed on this website.

      Sorry to hear that....

It reminds me of my parents situation (both were rejected first, only my mother appeared forthe second time and was rejected...). Third time we applied for both and got the visa..

I would think that applying separately after a previous rejection is not a good idea. You could apply for both next time.

Thanks for your inputs. Appreciate that. When do you provide the document? Do you submit the invitation and affidavit letter along with the passport during the interview or do you submit when the consular asks you to ?

        Thanks

          Either way is fine

I think the front office people take the passport, application, fees, invitation letter, affidavit and send them to the officer directly and give the rest of the docs to the applicant.

If it is not done that way, I guess just submit fees, the invitation, application, passport and affidavit and keep the remaining things handy.

It mainly depends on the interview rather than the documents. If you read posts/experiences in this forum, you will get a rough idea of what to expect in their next interview and prepare them accordingly. It also depends on luck...
