  • Parents/sister visa rejected .. reason unknown?

    Hi Everyone,
TOday my parents and sister appeared for visa in mumbai counsellate. The visa for all were rejected. My dad is 62 and he still works in a private firm, my mom is housewife, and sister has completed her Engineering and looking out for job.
The counslar officer just asked 5 questions and saw my employment letter( i work in very reputed company),, and ask my sister one question that what you do, she said she has just completed engineering, they didnt ask any questions to my mom.
Then they returned the passport with the seal application received and said sorry we cannot give you visa.. and that;s it.
I am wondering what can be the reason, because i was told they usually specify the reason of rejection and give some code 214 or something like that..
i am thinking of reapplying now.. i am thinking if i apply separately for all of them, would it help?
do they get priority in getting appointment in mumbai..

    please advise

    214B?

I guess it should be 214B because the officer must have thought that your sister might come to USA and start looking for jobs. In their opinion, she could be a potential immigrant who has no compelling ties to return to India.

This is the risk of applying for a visa for a young person like your sister along with parents. Even if they are not convinced about only your sister's application, they will reject your parents' application also.

If your parents apply next time without your sister, they have a good chance. After they get the visa, you can try for your sister.

      Hi venkat,

Thanks for the quick response.. i also feel, maybe because of sister this might be a problem.. What stamp do the counselates puts on the passport when they reject the visa.. do they put a Black stamp of application received with date on it? or they put something else.. how do we know for what reason officer has rejected the visa.. it will help us in planning for the next visit.

The section # will not be in the passport.

When they refuse the visa (under 214B or 221G), they will hand out a paper which will specify under what section the visa was refused. If your parents did not receive this, then based on what you said, I would assume it is 214B -- which means that the officer is not convinced that a) the applicant will return or b) applicant will not work in US or 3) the applicant is visiting USA for a legitimate purpose.

If it is 221g, they must have asked for some information or document which your parents did not produce. This is usually for refusal for lack of information/document and they will normally ask the applicants to re-apply with proper info/documents.

Yes, the passport will have "Application Received" with date on it when they reject the visa. We cannot know the exact reason why they rejected it.
