Hello,

I am working on J-1 visa while my wife is on J-2. I would like to invite my mother in law for few months.

For that i need to submit a copy of my wife passport....but my mother in law has different surname in her own passport than my wife's passport. Please suggest us how to solve this problem as counslate might notice this difference.

Please explain why there is a difference in last name.

Thanks for the reply......when my wife applied for her passport...she submitted her 10class certificate as a date of birth proof....this certificate has her mother name as Sabiya Khan. later her mother changed her name from Sabiya Khan to Sabiya Mubarak (New Sur-Name).
Now my wife's mother has got her passport with new name as Sabiya Mubarak. However my wife passport has her mother old name Sabiya Khan (according to her 10class certificate). If my mother in law attend visa interview..indian counslate might see this difference in surname. Please suggest us what would b the appropriate legal solution..

Along with other documents, provide the proof of her legal name change such as because of marriage or court order.
