URGENT.. PLEASE HELP!!!

My mother is in Chennai to attend B2 visa interview tomorrow morning. Just now came to know that she took the Demand Draft in the name "American Consulate General" WITHOUT specifying CHENNAI in the DD. Is that going to be a problem? If so, is any bank open around 7 in the morning to take the correct DD.
Please respond immediately.

Don't panic.. ! When is the interview ? I presume it is an early slot. As you know if it is an afternoon slot, she can go the bank and get a new DD, i,e she does not
have to be at the consulate early in the morning for an afternoon appt.


I tried looking up some banking hours, I have not found any, but I will continue to check.

As long as the DD is drawn in a nationalised bank you should be OK the DD's are checked by the TT visa employees, I think the DD should mention that it was issued in chennai.

So take this approach:

check your interview time, plan accordingly ..
DD's donot take too much time anyway.

Else just proceed to the consul, these people know how to deal with it !

Don't worry too much

In my opinion, it should not be a big deal. Make sure the details of your mother(name, passport # and date) are written on the back of the draft.

Ok so your Mother has to get the consul by 9:30 latest.

What bank do you have it now on.

Like we have mentioned this is a backup plan, not really necessary as we feel the TT visa personnel should know how to handle this, but knowing how you feel let's work out something if possible..

Please send us the bank name.

Currently she has taken from State Bank of India. Of course we won't change the dd by ourselves.

Somebody has also suggested to check with ICICI bank. They said they might be open at 7:00am. I will have to check on that one.

Don't put pressure on your mom...

Dude,
Whatever happens with your plan for taking another DD (which I think is not needed), make sure your mom does not get tensed up unnecessarily because of this. Tell her it is not a big deal so when she goes there tomorrow morning, she doesn't have to worry about this.

Let her concentrate only on the interview....

Just called SBI new york, did not get any good answers as to banking hours in chennai.

Another Info : if this DD is not accepted the closest should be Allahabad bank in thousand lights, just check
though.


I really think the DD should be fine .


Just get someone to help your Mom out getting the new DD if needed, this time write the details in paper. Talk to the bank manager , get the done quickly.

But please donot miss the 9:45 time by which you have to report at the consul, I would tell you to get there early this way you know that TT likes it or not and have an oppurtunity to get another one. If you go late, you will know the outcome late. Though the letter says donot come here 15 mins before, I do think people get in sooner. Try to see if you can get there by 8:30 am.

THANK YOU all!!! My mother got the visa. I will let you all know for how long after she receives the passport.
Actually her visa has been rejected 3 times in spite of her visiting US twice before. By God's grace and people like you guys that helped me in a critical moment, she got it this time. I will definitely post my experience in the experience section soon.

Regarding the DDs....
My mother went to the consulate around 8:00am and there were already auto drivers in front of the consulate that knew about what bank opens at what time. So my cousin took an auto and went to SBI at 8:30am which is about 2km from the consulate and took the correct DD. Just for 2kms, the auto driver asked Rs1000, and my cousin made him agree for Rs300. So luckily we were able to get the correct DD on time.

I am glad to know that your mom got visa. I remember how I felt when my parents visa was rejected twice and was approved at the third attempt. We should all thank immihelp (and of course its administrator) for providing a wonderful service...
