  • B2 Visa stamping documents- Is Original Birth Certificate required?

    Hi

My father-in-law is going for Visitor visa stamping on 11/17 - hyderabad.
I sent all documents mentioned in immihelp visa section except my wife's birth certificate(10th class memo).

    Is it mandatory?
Do we need to re-schedule interview?

    Please let me know.

Birth certificate is not mandatory. It is just to prove the relationship.

B2 Visa stamping documents- Is Original Birth Certificate required?

      Hi txh1b,

Immihelp(Under visitor visa section) lists Birth Certificate is mandatory in list of documents.

      Is it changed now?

      Thanks much in advance.

I am not contesting what immihelp says. Just my 2 cents.

Immihelp provides a comprehensive list of good to have stuff. Not all documents are looked at in any case. Rest is your choice.

          Let me clarify.

U.S. consulates in India have two sets of documents that they recommend.

One is mandatory documents: passport, DS-156 etc. If you don't have any of those, it is no good. You can't get visa.

Other is supporting documents: Among that, original birth certificate is mentioned. Just because they are listed under this category, it does not mean those documents are not required. If you are asked for any of the documents in this category, and if you don't have it, your visa will not be issued. There is no exact or complete set of documents that are specified to guarantee the visa. Of course, all the documents are not asked for to all the visa applicants.

          I hope this clarifies.
