  • Query - Invite letter

    Hi,

I have 10 yr multiple entry b1/B2. I am going on a personal trip to the US. I will stay with a friend (who is on H1B there). I have been told that an invite letter is not needed at the PoE.

But another friend of mine who just reached the US, couple of days back says that the US immigration was quite eager to see a guy's invite letter and they also said told this person that one cant be given clearance without an invite letter!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't make sense to me. Please let me have your advice. I''ll anyways ask my friend to send me an invite letter stating that I am welcome to stay at his place.

    What advice do you expect?
I doubt if you would be sent back from the airport if you had a valid tourist visa but didn't have an invitation letter with you.
But to be on the safe side, have your friend's invitation close at hand.
If the immigration official want to see it then show it. If they don't ask for it well then it doesn't matter.

You will need to show a detailed itinerary to explain your reason for visit.
If you say you are visiting friend, a letter will be good. Printout of email is also okay.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Thank you! I am taking the email printout, which states that my friend will host me at his place from December 4th to 14th. As for the detailed itinerary..I'll have my return tickets for 14th december. I'll reach Charlotte on 4th december.

I plan to visit a scenic place nearby to Charlotte, on December 5 through December 8. I have booked my train tickets and hotel stay at this place for 3-4 days. I could carry those as well for the PoE to see. On December 8, I'll return to Charlotte (haven't booked that train ticket as yet cos I kight want to stay a day or two more).

          Do you think this suffices?
