Visa for mother of a U.S citizen

To whom it may concern,

I am a Norwegian woman with a 10 month old boy. My son and his father are a U.S citizen, but we are not married. I am thinking of visiting his grandparents and would like to stay there for at least six months. As a Norwegian citizen I am a part of the Visa Waiver program, but that applies only for a 90 days stay. After those six months I will travel back to Norway to finish some courses, for then to probably be travelling back to the U.S and stay with his grandparents for another six months. In Norway you can stay home with your child till he is three years if he is not attending any nursery. I would like to take that time as an opportunity for his grandparents to get to know him.
I have been to the U.S several times under the Visa Waiver program.
Is there any way I can get a 5 or 10 year visa with multiple entries?
Or do I have to apply for two separate visas for 6 months each?
Or stay out of the U.S for a certain amount of time after visited for a certain amount of time?

You can apply for tourist visa.

However, if you try to stay in the U.S. too much, you may be denied entry into the U.S.
