  • Gujarati speaking parents applying for B2 - no appointment dates!! Help!

    Hi Everyone,
I am currently on H1B in the US since the last 3 years (just got my extension petition approved). My parents plan to visit me later this spring. They paid the application fees (HDFC Bank) and also completed the DS-160 and have their CEAC confirmation numbers. My father can speak English (although he is a bit nervous about the American accent), but my mother cannot. So, I tried to get their appointment indicating Gujarati language preference, but there are no dates available. What is the best course of action?

    1. Take an English language date and hope for to get an interpretor?
    2. Wait for a Gujarati language date?
    3. Take an English language date and hope that they let my father be an interpretor for my mother.

Thanks for all your help! And keep up this wonderful forum! It has been very useful.

If your father thinks he can manage in English, take an appointment in English. He can translate for your mother.

Otherwise, need to wait for Gujarati appointment.

Thanks for the advice. Do they provide translators if requested? Again, my father can speak very fluent English but he is a bit afraid he won't be able to understand the questions well as he may not understand the accent.

If you take the appointment in English, no translators will be provided.

If he knows fluent English, he should not have any problems at the interview. No one going to US for the first from India is already too much familiar with American accent (other than may be English movies, up to some extent), but they still manage.

Thanks! Any idea when do they open new dates at the Mumbai consulate? There seems to be some mention online about specific times of the week when they post new open dates. I think I might want to take a chance for one round and see if they can get a Gujarati appointment dates and if that doesn't work then they can take an English appointment date.
