Hi Folks,
My situation is a little tricky. I wanted my parents and brother to visit me and my wife in the US.
So the DS160 applications were filled up and due to a lack of prior knowledge regarding the strength of an application, I put myself as their sponsor on the DS160 forms and set my parents intended duration of stay for 3 months and 1 month for my brother. My dad is a financial consultant and mom is a house wife, my brother is self employed. My dad can more than easily sponsor his trip (substantial monthly income and properties) but I didn't want them to go through the hassle of documents, etc for self sponsor.
These are the series of events
1. The biometrics were done last week, March 25th
2. My brother cannot attend the interview in April because he cannot leave USA, and will be a no-show (is this a bad idea) in their family interview of 3 members? Also he is single and doesn't have strong ties so it's probably better for him to drop out at this point.
3. After learning more, I want to change the sponsorship information on DS 160 forms (that were used during the biometrics) to my dad (self sponsor) and duration of stay to 3 weeks from 3 months.
There is a lot of conflicting information online, from 'not possible to change DS160 after biometrics' to 'it's a bad idea to cancel an appointment'. I am really in a bad situation now because my parents need to come here for a 4-6 weeks due to personal medical reasons asap. But it's better late than very late, so should i make a new ds160 application with self sponsor and different intended duration of stay ( 3 weeks) or cancel everything and start over.
Thank you Friends
