  • Missing expired passport needed for visitor visa (b2)

    Hello,

I have a scheduled interview for my parents next week for visitor visa. I have a few urgent queries:

    1. My dad is unable to find his expired passport (expired in 2012). How big of an issue is this since they ask to carry all current and expired passports? Just fyi - the old passport was not stamped with visa of any foreign country as there was no travel done on that.
    2. Do they need to carry any photo of themselves? The documentation says that it needs to be done only for children below 14 yrs of age. Please confirm.
    3. Do I need to send them the receipt for the payment that was done to schedule the interview?

I would really appreciate suggestions here.

If the passport is empty (no visa stamped, no travel history on that) then it is useless. Don't worry about it.

Though they take fresh photo at OFC & use the same for visa application now-a-days. However it is still suggested to carry couple of photos - just in case it is needed.

Not needed, but carrying one more page won't hurt.

I got a visa this year and last year as well. OFC did not take photos either time. The requirement to carry photos is listed on USTravelDocs regardless of which OFC.

Thanks Mogu, Did they asked you to submit your paper photo? Or they used the one they had in record from previous year? Which photo is printed on your visa?

            Hello Mogu,
I see nothing mentioned about photo for visitor visa under the link: https://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-photoinfo.asp

They ask for a new printed photo and use the new photo you submit. At Delhi VAC they used to have cameras but I haven't seem them use it for years. They ask for 1 printed photo.

The requirement of bringing a photo is listed in the interview waiver letter (it lists what to bring). Mine was for H1b renewal but I imagine your appointment letter would also list the requirements.

Got it! This is for visitor visa for my parents and there is no such mention. I will ask them to carry a couple of photographs nonetheless, just in case. Thank you so much!

For the benefit for others, I never submitted a printed photo in last 4 years (got multiple visa for 3 times for myself & family).. Probably it is because I went to OFC for fingerprinting & camera was working at that time.

                    Yes, better to carry one.
