  • B2 visa - denied with 214b letter. Need advice to apply again

My parents attended interview today. The interview was in Telugu.

    US consulate location - Hyderabad
    Time : 7:45 AM

little background about my parents - my father who is 70yrs old, retired almost 10 years back from a private job. My mother who is 60 years old works as a Sanskrit lecturer in a private college with an annual income of 1.2 Lacs. They have two children, I am the elder one and my sister lives in Hyderabad. No properties or own house.

    Questions asked:
VO asked my parents to get the copies of the passports of my husband and I ready but she did not looked at them.

They asked only only two questions,
what is the purpose of the visit?
My mother answered to visit some places and spend time with my daughter, SIL and grandson.
what is the annual income of my mother?
    1.2 Lacs per Annum

VO said visa is rejected and handed over the 214b letter.

My husband and I got US citizenship recently and we have pretty good jobs and ability to sponsor my parents.

None of the documents were asked during the interview. In the DS 160 application, we have mentioned their intended travel as 6 months. Is it something could be a reason for denial?

Please share your experiences of having approval second time and any tips or suggestions for applying again.

    Thanks in advance,
    M

Usually they do not ask for any documentations. Yes, 6 months could be a reason.

Thanks so much for responding. We will cut down on the duration. Another question please:
In this, we have listed my mom as Primary applicant, is it okay if we change the primary applicant to dad? Do you think that is noticable to VO when they go for interview? Is it something we should not do and make my mom as primary applicant?

      Thanks again,
      M

Doesn't matter as such, each application is treated on its own merits. You can give it a try.
