Visitor Visa Dilemna

Me and my wife are U.S. citizens. I am on social security disabilty and my wife has a full time job.

I would like to sponsor my brother and his family who live in India for a U.S tourist visa. I am not sure if age is taken into consideration when granting a visa, he is 40 yrs old.

Should I sponsor or is it better for my wife to apply since I am on disabilty?

The other question I have is, do we need past tax returns also or is a bank statement and proof of income enough?
