  • My parents have paid the Demand Draft

My Parents appeared for the interview on November 30, 2004 (3.30 - 3.45 PM IST) at Chennai consulate and they have paid the final Demand draft. They are supposed to get the passports within 3 working days. I would like to thank Immihelp for their wonderful help. It would not have been possible to know the nuances of this process without the help of this site. Kudos to them.

For the benefit of others I would like to explain the scenario faced by my mum and dad yesterday at Chennai consulate.

When they entered the consulate they have shown the web appointment and paid the DD meant for TT Services.

Then in the next counter they were asked to submit the DS-156 forms and the passports. The lady at the counter has pointed out a mistake in the section 37 of the form. Though I did check the option "Son working", they expect all the other options to be selected as "NO". The lady at the counter has done the same on behalf of my parents.

Then they were asked to proceed to the interview section and they were asked to stand in the queue right away behind two others.

My mom and dad have greeted the consular officer with a "Hi...Good evening" and he has replied "Good evening".

Consular Officer: Who is in the United States?

    My mother: My son.

Consular Officer: When did he go to United States?

    My mother: March 2004.

Consular Officer has counted using his hands and told to himself "8 months..hmmm".

Consular Officer : Can you show his passport copy?

My mother has given the same and he has glanced all the pages. He has taken a few extra seconds in all the pages having a US visa stamped (Infact I have got some 6 US visas in the last two years).

Consular Officer : How many children do you have?

My Mother : A daughter and grand son who live in the suburbs of Chennai.

Consular Officer : Where do you stay?

    My Mother : Chennai

Consular Officer : Who are all staying in your house?

My Mother : Me and my husband since my son is away in the US.

Consular Officer : Where did your son study (University)?

    My mother : **** ***

Consular Officer : Where is he working?

    My Mother : YYYY XX

Consular Officer : (To my father)Where did you work?

    My Father : Bank Manager

    Consular Officer : Which bank?

    My Father : YYYY X

Consular Officer : When did you retire?

    My Father : March 1996.

Consular Officer : How long do you plan to stay in the US?

    My mother : 4 months

Consular Officer has asked my parents to pay the DD in the first counter and they did that gleefully!

It is interesting to note that the consular officer hasn't looked at any other documents other than my passport pages.

Again thanks to immihelp for the wonderful support.

    Thanks.
    Vijay
