I am a US citizen and recently submitted the I 485 Adjustment of Status on behalf of my mum who is visiting me now in the US. Her B2 tourist visa is expiring at the end of next month and I am waiting to her back from USCIS on the application for green card. I called up USCIS twice today and wasw told 2 completely different things. I wanted to know whether she could still stay in the country when they are processing her adjustment of status to green card even though her visa is expiring next month. One officer said yes, that as long as she came in legally and they were processing her application, she can stay here while her application is in process. Another officer told me something so different. That she had to leave the country before her vsa expires and that she will do her whole interview process in our home country.
Does anyone have experience in this whole thing? I am so frustrated because I keep getting different information.
