  • Reapplying for B-2 visa

    Hi,

I am a graduate student in USA. My parents ( India) went for a visa interview recently to obtain B2 visa just for 3 months, but they didn't get visa. The visa officer didn't believe that they will return home after the visit. Because both I and my sister are studying here and my parents are retired. I invited them for my graduation and visit USA. Unfortunately they were not lucky. What should we do? Now only my mother is going to re-apply for B2 visa, in that case she can prove that she will return back because her husband is back in the country. Will this work? I really want at least one of my parents to participate in my graduation ceremony. Please advise me

Your wanting one of your parents here is not the Visa Officer's concern, is it?

Will your mother's applying by herself work? No can say for certain. There are no guarantees or short cuts.

What if she is asked what has changed that her husband is not joining her? You think the VO cannot guess your reason for having your mother apply by herself?

The fact is your parent/s will have to show serious and convincing economic and social ties to their home country. Also by reapplying frequently they show their desperation to visit the US which does not help their case.

My parents who are also long retired applied for a B2 visa over 6 years after I came to the US and just that fact proved to the VO that they were not desperate to visit. Needless to say they got their visa very smoothly.

Of course, you are free to try again but do remember that if for some reason your mother is rejected again she should not reapply for the next couple of years.
