Whether Apply B-1 or B-2

Hi,

I wanted to know that if someone wants to visit US for a conference, can he do so on a B-2 (for pleasure tourism) visa?

I have a problem here. I am planning to join a company who wants to send me for a conference in US next month at thier head quarters.

They can't initiate my business visa now (not an employee of that company now) so have asked me to get tourist visa.
Which visa should i apply and what should i say in interview?

HI Immihelp team,

I was filling up the form at VFS site. It requires details of the travel program and place of stay. Now i don't know these places untill i join the organisation which has a plan of sending me to thier US office for a week to attend a conference.

Shall i apply to b-1 / b-2 both category. If yes, then i don't have letter from company for b-1 and no travel itinerary for b-2.

Please guide me further. I don't want to miss an opportunity to go to US headquarters of this company. This will be my first time!
