Extension of stay (I-539) options for parents who came at different times
Here is the timeline:
Aug - Mother (who is on a tourist visa) came to visit us to provide us emotional support
Oct - We gave birth to premie twins
Oct - Father (who is also on a tourist visa) joined us
Both are scheduled to go in February and we want to extend their stay. And we want to extend their stay so they can continue to provide emotional support to us. Here are some questions:
1. For how long should I file extension for? Some say 8 months and some say 6 months?
2. Can I add the Father to the extension request? Some say that filing for extension of stay within 3 months of him arriving in USA is a red flag since that indicates prior intent to extend.
3. Should I give the reason for extension as providing us emotional support? Any language that you recommend? Some say it is better to just say "Old age, not able to visit many places in 6 months, request more time to see other places, with some schedule."
4. If only mom should apply now, should I file it online or by paper?
