  • Questions on Visitor visa application @Mumbai

    Hi,

My mother's 10 year US visa has expired in early April this year. She would like
to reapply for another visa as she plans to visit us this summer. She has been
to the US about 5 times. I have a few questions regarding the new visa
    application process.

    1. Can I fill the online application for her and send her a copy? I will
have her passport, visa, previous visit details etc before starting the
application process. Does she need to specify anywhere that the
form has not been filled by her? Of course, I would go over the details
    with her.
    2. Also, i plan to schedule the interview from the VFS website after the
visa fees have been paid. Should the interview scheduling be done only
    from India?
    3. She has a US Tax payer ID as I could claim her as a dependant on one
of her visits when she was here for 6 months. Should i specify her
Tax payer ID on the form?

My mother will be applying at the Mumbai consulate. Also, I am a US citizen.

    Appreciate any help on this....

    Thanks,
    RS

    1. You can do it for her. You have to write that you filled the form for her.
    2. You can do it from anywhere in the world.
    3. Yes.

Thanks for your replies. Regarding question 3, my mother got her Tax Payer
ID a few years back. We have misplaced the number. I know I can get it
from IRS again but since we need to apply for her visa soon, is it possible
to choose the "Does not Apply" option? Would this be a major cause for rejection?

      Thanks
      RS

So you are asking if you can lie about crucial information on the visa application simply to avoid the time/effort it takes you to get the number that you misplaced.

        No. You cannot do that.

What if the fact that she has a tax ID # exists in her case file? Can any one guarantee that it doesn't?

Have you tried with the IRS first to see how long it would take for them to get that number for you? Isn't it possible that they might be able to get that information to you within a few days?
