Change of Status from H4 to B2

Hello All

I urgently need some assistance. I am currently on H4 visa, I will be very soon getting divorced from my husband who is having H1 B status. I want to change my non-immigrant H4 status to non-immigrant B2 before I get divorced. Can I apply for a B2 visa while I am residing in United States of America or do I need to go out of the country and apply for this category. My brother will sponser my B2 who is also having H1 B. Please advice.

You can apply for change of status within the U.S. by filing the form I-539.

But here the important point I need clarification on is that can we change status from H4 (dependent) to B2 (Visitor). It is not like the regular change of status from H4 to H1 or F1.
