  • Tamil Interview in Chennai - Visa rejected 214(B)

    My sister-in-law (Age: 37) and her 2 sons (Age 17 & 13) had their US visitor visa interview in Chennai (Tamil interview). My sister-in-law could not understand the questions in Tamil that the Visa Officer asked. She was able to understand only very few words that the VO asked. She requested for the question to be repeated and even then she was unable to understand the question properly. She just guessed based on the few words that she understood and going by the preparation that we did on possible questions, she answered the questions. It appears that the VO was not happy with the answers or the way the interview went judging by his reaction. After 3 questions the visa application was rejected under 214(B).

    We went for the Tamil appointment thinking that communication should not be an hindrance during the interview and she should be able to understand and reply back easily in Tamil, her mother tongue. This was totally unexpected and we are really disappointed with the way it went.

    Has any one experienced any thing like this? What could have my sister-in-law done in that situation?

    Any help/advise/information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    DKS

      @Ayu_pat,

      It is unfortunate that things happen not to our complete satisfaction. Getting rejected for a specific reason is acceptable. We could take the corrective action if any and re-apply. In this case, the applicant does not even have the satisfaction of attending the interview and answer the questions even when the appt was in the native language.

      May I know if your mother re-applied and got the visa?

      Thanks for your response,
      DKS
